The Nudge Story
Conversation was a big thing in my family. I remember my mother scanning the newspaper before supper guests arrived, determined to be “up on the news” and current affairs - this was the 1980s, after all. Her belief, which eventually became mine, was that curiosity is the key to good conversation.
Nudge began in Bali, where I lived with my family for 11 years before we moved to Nelson, New Zealand, in 2025.
I started writing the questions as a way to reconnect with my own children as they grew older and our conversations began to change. Over time, I shared these questions with hundreds of people - around our kitchen table, on walks, at social gatherings, and on holidays - uncovering unexpected insights, funny stories, and genuine moments of connection.
As Nudge evolved, I collaborated closely with two psychologists and an outstanding educator to refine the questions and ensure they resonated across different ages and life experiences. It wasn't just me and my community anymore; it became a thoughtful, validated tool for genuine connection.
What emerged is Nudge: a handcrafted box of playful questions designed to spark real conversations - without pressure, scripts, or small talk.
“Nudge isn’t about having better answers. It’s about asking better questions and making space for whatever shows up.”
